"Trailblazing" was screened.
The following quote was taken from the festival's program:
"Jill of all trades, Hoffe turns in her first extended
film with her usual high standards. Indeed,
Trailblazing is aptly titled, for it blazes a
cinematic journey for Hoffe herself, who journeyed to
beautiful Nepal to research the heavily male-dominated
adventure tourism business and the persistently brave
female guides who bushwhack through the gender
barriers. In particular, she focuses on the firm of 3
Sisters, who give comfort to visiting female trekkers
and in turn train new ones. Not surprisingly, and
given Hoffe's well trained eye, the documentary
captures the raw beauty of the Himalaya region, as
well as the complex infrastructure of competitive
demands that brace its development. It also
illuminates a progressive social network in the works,
with the spectacular mountains as omniscient
participants. Take a hike to this premier screening
and help us celebrate Hoffe's achievement.
