One of the best things about living in various parts of North America is that you get to experience all four seasons. And there are all sorts of sports that you can play, from the Rockies to a park around the corner from cottages in PEI, that will allow you to both get active and experience some of what the great outdoors has to offer. If you're someone who loves a summer sport, for example, and is wondering what to do during the other three months of the year, than here are some great choices.
If you ask Canadians what to do in the wintertime than one of the sports that will definitely come up is hockey. This might not be the official national sport but there are people watching a game in their loft or playing on a rink throughout the colder months. And there are certainly more sports to enjoy here in the ice and snow. Downhill and cross-country skiing are both very comfortable, as is sledding, ice skating, and curling.
Spring is the introduction of a number of sports that you will play until the weather starts turning colder once again. Many people don't even like to wait until all of the snow is melted to start running outside or to get out their bicycle. You will also find people enjoying games of basketball, baseball, and tennis in the spring.
Summer is when we seem to all be able to find a sport to play outside. Now the pitches are dry enough to play soccer or rugby and people can swim everyday in their pools, lakes, rivers, and even the ocean. You don't need to be at a Sunshine Coast vacation rental to go surfing or skateboard down the street. These are the sports that are enjoyed throughout the world at some time during the year.
When the weather starts to get colder again you might need to put away your baseball mitt or your swimsuit but that doesn't mean that you need to go into hibernation. Many people join yoga classes or bundle up and go hiking through the changing colors when it gets to autumn. This can also be the best time to get outside for a run or a bike ride, as you won't get overheated as quickly as you would in July and August.
There really are a number of seasonal sports that you can participate in throughout the year no matter where you're living. Some are best suited to the most athletic among us while others are great for everyone. If you're looking for the right one for you than you should visit a local park or community centre to see what people are playing.
